# Operators

> BigQuery operators supported in Firebolt's BigQuery compatibility mode.

<span className="feature-tag">Preview</span>

BigQuery [operators](https://docs.cloud.google.com/bigquery/docs/reference/standard-sql/operators) supported in [BigQuery compatibility mode](/reference-sql/bigquery/overview).

## Supported operators

| Category | Operators |
| :- | :- |
| Arithmetic | `+`, `-`, `*`, `/`, unary `-` |
| Comparison | `=`, `!=`, `<>`, `<`, `<=`, `>`, `>=` |
| Logical | `AND`, `OR`, `NOT` |
| Null-aware comparison | `IS [NOT] NULL`, `IS [NOT] TRUE`, `IS [NOT] FALSE`, `IS [NOT] DISTINCT FROM` |
| Range and set | `[NOT] BETWEEN`, `[NOT] IN (...)`, `[NOT] IN UNNEST(array)` |
| Pattern | `[NOT] LIKE` |
| Array element access | `array[OFFSET(n)]`, `array[ORDINAL(n)]` |
| JSON field access | `json_value -> 'key'` |
| Timezone conversion | `timestamp AT TIME ZONE 'zone'` |

`AT TIME ZONE` converts between an absolute `TIMESTAMP` and a wall-clock `DATETIME` in the given zone, matching how BigQuery's timezone-aware functions read a zone argument.

## Limitations

* BigQuery concatenation with `||` follows Firebolt's string concatenation semantics. Use [`CONCAT`](/reference-sql/bigquery/functions/string) for BigQuery's argument handling.
* Bitwise operators are read where Firebolt supports them; confirm behavior against [Firebolt operators](/reference-sql/lexical-structure/operators) for edge cases such as negative shift counts.
